Why Buyer Baskets Matter to Me (and Why I Created My Own)

If you’ve ever been a part of the 4-H community, you know how special fair week is — early mornings in the barn, washing and walking animals, late nights with friends, and the big moments in the show ring. I spent nearly my entire youth showing swine at the Portage County Fair. It taught me responsibility, grit, and how to appreciate the value of hard work.

One of the most important traditions in 4-H is giving back to the buyers — those generous people who support our projects at the auction and invest in the next generation. I vividly remember assembling buyer baskets every year to say “thank you.” As I got older, I realized a lot of those baskets ended up filled with things that didn’t have much heart behind them — throwaway trinkets or mass-produced items that didn’t truly reflect our appreciation.

So last year, I decided to do things differently.

Through my business, Bakery and Blooms, I created homemade buyer baskets filled with things I would personally love to receive — real, handmade goodies crafted with care and intention. Things that say: Thank you for believing in us. Thank you for showing up.

And guess what? They were a hit!

This year, I’m bringing them back — better than ever.

Each $30 basket includes:
🍞 A mini loaf (your choice: banana, zucchini, or chocolate zucchini)
🍓 A jar of our homemade mixed berry jam
🥣 A bag of granola
🍪 Two chocolate chip cookies
🧂 A seasoning packet to enjoy in your kitchen

Every item is made with love and wrapped up in a gift that feels personal — because it is personal. These baskets are a small but meaningful way to honor the tradition I grew up with and help today’s 4-H kids show their gratitude in a way that feels genuine.
